Thunderbolt Docks & Docking Stations
Connect a multitude of devices and displays to your workstation using a single Thunderbolt™ 4 or Thunderbolt™ 3 port with our range of Thunderbolt docks. With support for USB Type-C, USB Type-A, and Thunderbolt alongside Ethernet connections and audio jacks, these hubs make connecting your peripherals and devices easy.
What to look for in a Thunderbolt docking station
Your Thunderbolt docking station should offer a few key features. Consider the following.
- Ports: Look for USB-C/USB-A, ethernet, HDMI/DisplayPort, headphones jacks, and more.
- Connection to your computer: Thunderbolt is the latest option for bandwidth and speeds, so double check to make sure that’s officially the connection protocol.
- Display functionality: Make sure your dock can run 4K, high refresh rates, and multiple monitor setups—if that’s what you’re after.
- Form factor: Go for a desktop box for an at-home docking station, or opt for a single cable or smaller dongle for your on-the-go device.
What is the purpose of a Thunderbolt docking station, and do you need it?
Any dock or docking station will serve to add a “home base” for your laptop or desktop PC—creating a one-stop-shop for ports and connectivity. A Thunderbolt dock provides the most possible bandwidth in a single connection for your PC, and therefore will be your best bet if you have a lot of transfer needs. For example, if you want to plug in external USB-A or USB-C hard drives, Thunderbolt will give you headroom for higher transfer speeds. This protocol will also allow for more displays at higher resolutions and higher refresh rates. So, while some laptops offer very few ports and basically necessitate a dock or docking station—even a desktop can benefit from expanding your ports and creating a single connection for ease of use.
